Night time blog

I just thought I'd get on here before I jumped into bed, did some reading and went to sleep. I was just watching some more Gladiator, which can never get old. Tonight Susan and I met up with our friends Ismael and Sara and carved some pumpkins. We did the same thing last year, and once again it was a good time. Then Susan and I watched some Smallville and I came home and am hanging out with Achilles. Suze made some awesome Lazagna earlier and I can still taste the garlic despite the fact that I've brushed my teeth twice just to try to get it out of my mouth. Now, the last time this happened I told her about it and she swore she didn't use any garlic! So it's probably just me. But that stuff was great and she kept it real as usual by letting me take the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. She's too good to me. The problem is there aren't many things that I can think of (o.k., any things, but there's got to be something) that I do for her like that. So I hope when we get married that she isn't like "Oh man, it wasn't worth it..." Haha. I'm just kidding of course, because first of all she'd never think that and second of all she doesn't do anything with thoughts of getting anything in return. That's why I better hurry up and get that ring...she's a real keeper. But we all already know that. In terms of something new, I have two new roomates. Well, three if we're counting another dog. I'll have to talk about that later. For now I'm very ready to go to bed and wake up late tomorrow due to some flex time I've accrued which is too complicated to mention the details of. Good night to me.

Practicing alone-time

I feel like I barely made it through work today, sniffling and coughing all over the place. Sore throat, the works. Leave it to Lynchburg to be ninety degrees one day and sixty the next. It was pretty cold out, so it wasn't pleasant getting trapped outside of the school twice in this weather do to a new security system in which they've employed the use of swipe cards. Of course, that system doesn't work well for you if you don't have one of those cards. I'm not an employee of Lynchburg city schools; we're from an outside agency and therefore don't get one of those fancy swipee thingys. Really stinks in cold weather. Like today. But anyway, I'm online checking mail, facebook, instant messaging...all the things I'll be doing when Susan is home and I'm here in The 'Burg with not much else to do. (Like now, since she's away for the weekend). At least I got to go to a friend's house and watch The Office. I also got to meet up with a friend and his wife at Starbucks earlier and had myself a much-needed hot chocolate. Very exciting. My original intention was to get on here and vent about stuff but I feel like leaving things where they are and getting some rest. Besides, I'm too busy telling Achilles to stop pacing, sighing, licking my floor and chewing on my internet wires. So I guess I'll get off here soon and hop into bed where I can tell him to stop staring, laying his head on my mattress and just overall driving me insane. Just kidding, he's great. I'm not half as lonely with him around in this huge house with my girlfriend in another state and my roomate missing in action. He just needs to stop staring at me with his blue-white devil eyes while I'm trying to read and sleep.

Workin' it

I haven't done this in a while. But I'm at work and I had borrowed my beloved Susan's laptop. By the way, it's Susan who beloved, not just her laptop. That's what I meant at least. Anyway, I looked for some wireless internet connections while I was bored here at work and I found one! This is exciting indeed, for all I'm doing all day is writing (or thanks to Susan typing) my notes from the previous week. I mean I could go to the medical records office and audit client's charts...but that would be terrible. But when I found out that I could go online I naturally thought hey, this could be an opportunity to blog since I haven't done it in so long and give an update of what's going on. Unfortunately, there's really not too much going on. I had decided a while back that not enough of my friends or family really even look at my site so I didn't want to take up time doing more typing, but I think that soon I'll be doing it more often because Susan is moving back home and I'll have more time with nothing to fill it up with. So that brings me to the subject of our tentative plans for the future, which seems like it could be something worth bloggin about for anyone who cares. Susan is planning on moving back to South Carolina after her lease runs out at The Vistas at the end of October. She and her dad are looking to buy a house, with the help of her sister and brother-in-law, so they can work on fixing it up and later selling it. I will stay in Lynchburg and continue working with Community services. My biggest responsibility during this time will be, if I haven't done it by the time Susan leaves, to look for and purchase an engagement ring. Then Susan will plan for a wedding and we'll get married late spring, early summer, something like that. Sounds like a plan. I have a few ideas and I really think it's going to work by the grace of God. So keep praying. I know I am. But other than that my days will be spent at Linkhorne Elementary School, at the YMCA working out, hanging out with Achilles and probably doing a lot of reading and stuff like that. But for the meantime Susan and I are hanging out while we can, and doing things such as coaching a YMCA soccer team, hanging out with friends, etc. The end of October will come upon us faster than we know. Then people will always know what I'm up to because I won't have much more to do than to get on here and blog about what I'm up to. So I'll be on here again soon.

Public School

I was talking to a teacher at Linkhorne Elementary school today about one of my clients and we had a good conversation. It eventually led to her printing me out an e-mail that was forwarded to all the teachers in the school which made a funny point about "religion" in the public school system, which I thought was cool to see being circulated in a public school. But anyway I thought maybe Christians would appreciate this if they can patiently read it and make it to the end.

After being interviewed by the school administration, the teaching prospect said, "Let me see if I've got this right: You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behaviors, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.

You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizinship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.

You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the state exams.

You want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bullitin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.

you want me to do all this and then you tell me...

"I CAN'T PRAY?!?!?!?"

True
